Veeravati got married a young Brahmin man. after some a period of marriage, Veeravati visited her mother’s house. She had fasted on Karva Chauth that day, and her hunger was making her quite angry. Upon their return from work in the evening, the brothers inquired about their sister’s cause of anxiety. Veeravati declared that she is fasting and that she will only be able to eat after making a lunar offering of Arghya.
However, the brothers were oblivious to their loving sister’s anguish. The youngest brother then devised a plan, lit a lantern, and set it beneath a sieve on a nearby peepal tree. From a distance, it appeared as though the moon had emerged. When Veeravati’s sister-in-law told her the truth and revealed that everything had occurred as a result of the Karva Chauth fast being broken, she broke down in tears.
Veeravati did not permit her husband to be cremated because, upon discovering the truth, she determined that her chastity would bring her husband back to life. For a full year, she cared for her husband’s body and continued to gather the needle-like grass that was growing there.
